Great Summer Day

I live on a beautiful piece of property in New York.  We have chickens that are free range in the yard.  As I went out this morning to open the chicken coop to let them out, this turtle greeted me on the way.

The chickens have fresh water in their coop, but this morning they all raced to the water dish we have for them in the yard.

We have two new chickens that hatched out in March.  You can really see the pecking order as the older hens go get their water first and the newer hens wait their turn.

It was a great way to start the day.  The canna lilies are in bloom as well, so the hummingbirds are starting to come.

I hope you are having a beautiful summer day!

Quilting with a message

I submitted a quilt to "threads of resistance".  I'm proud to have made one of the 500 different quilts were submitted for the traveling show.

My quilt is in the woman's rights category:  http://threadsofresistance.org/womensrights.html#11

It uses vintage Sunbonnet Sue blocks.  Here is my statement about the quilt:

Don’t look the other way.

Back in the day, if a quilter didn’t agree, she would turn one of the Sunbonnet Sue figures on her quilt to face the other way. We can’t turn our back on our problems now. We have to take off our bonnets, put on our “pussy hats” and let our feelings be known. www.Sunbonnetsue.com
